WaSPs (WATERDALE Support Positions)

(In Communication with the Secretary, Reporting to the Committee)

If you are interested in a deeper involvement with WATERDALE but the committee is not for you, perhaps you would like to consider one of our WATERDALE Support Positions (WaSP)? Often referred to as our “leading volunteers” our WaSP positions enable members to focus their efforts towards a particular area that interests them in a less structured, flexible and more individual way then committee membership offers. WaSP holders can benefit from the ongoing support of the organisation and committee in developing their particular area and their own skills-set. WaSPs attend 6 meetings over the whole year as part of the wider “leadership team” made up of the committee and WaSPs.

WaSP positions can be shared by more then one individual and new WaSP positions can be created if someone comes to us with a suggestion or an area they would like to pursue you can contact the committee regarding this via president@waterdaleplayers.com

Applications for WaSP positions for 2011/12 are currently being taken, email president@waterdaleplayers.com if you’d like to take up a position or get more information.

The following WATERDALE Support Positions are being offered for the 2011/12 year;

Community Involvement and Participation

This position works to establish and strengthen links between WATERDALE and the wider community to encourage involvement and participation. They work closely with the Publicity manager to distribute WATERDALE material to Schools, councils, libraries and work to establish and develop “get involved” activities which could include public performances, community info boards and a list of important people and institutions  to receive our information.

Theatre In our Community

This position will work on the development of the theatre in community program from our previous theatre in education program and maintain and strengthen the relationships that the organisation shares with the community. The will also have a guiding role in a number of community performances the organisation does each year. The information that is generated will be presented at meetings and will also be summarised at the annual general meeting providing recommendations for the future of the Theatre in the Community Program.

Photography and Journalism

This position will work to write articles and content which go up on the WATERDALE facebook, newsletter, website and twitter accounts on different topics such as "what does it mean to be involved at WATERDALE" "what's it's like to be in a WATERDALE show" as well as interviewing cast members, writing pieces on particular projects etc. This position will also photograph rehearsals and other relevant events for newsletter and online uses. This position will be working under the guidance of Online Promotion Portfolio and the Newsletter Portfolio. This position would be suitable for a number of people to share.

Fundraising Resources Champions

The Fundrasing Resource champions will assist the fundraising and sponsorship manager to collect prizes and gifts for the WATERDALE year. They will also work to form relationships with third parties to expand the avenues from which resources are received and create a database of peoples or companies that have donated to WATERDALE.

WATERDALE Working Groups

(Containing a committee member, relevant WaSPs and members)

A new concept being launched for the 2011/12 year is our new “WATERDALE Working Groups” Working groups will typically involve about 4-8 people working on a particular area or issue for a set time frame (which can range from 3-6 weeks to a few months), they enable people with a particular interest in an area, or people who aren’t particularly keen on the commitment of being a committee member but want to be involved or further contribute to WATERDALE to focus their involvement on a single project. We hope the new initiative will both enable us to create a better organisation for the future and provide more involvement opportunities. We also believe the concept has the potential to further develop skills and leadership qualities in our membership base!

Each WATERDALE Working Group will have a nominated Chair and an Administrator, the chair will direct the meetings/group and the Administrator will co-ordinate note taking and documents etc. Working Group Membership is approved by the committee.

Some prospective working groups are the Website Working Group, the Get Involved Working Group, the Five Year Plan Working Group, the WATERDALE Concept and Image Working Group, and the Storage, Stock and Resources Working Group.

We will be taking expressions of interest for the new Working Groups as each one is formed over the coming year, however if you are keen on a particular area or would like more information you are welcome to contact the committee via president@waterdaleplayers.com
